On April 19, 2018, UpGyres launched the PLASTIKA REPARABILIS CHALLENGE to the entire plastics value chain.

The Plastika Reparabilis Challenge ‘PRC’ is a synergistic and symbiotic global crowdsourcing collaboration to eliminate plastic waste before it happens.

The aim is to reach 100% collection, recovery, and sorting of all types of scrap plastic, increase the value of ALL plastic scrap, transition to recycling for reusability and refill-ability and replace petrochemical plastics with nature-compatible plastics for as many applications as possible.

Plastic pollution is a leading contributor to climate change, and the world needs an ecosystem of integrated solutions to solve, remediate, mitigate, stop and regenerate this Bigger than Life Challenge.
Recovering ALL types of flexible and rigid recyclable, non-recyclable, compostable and biodegradable plastics and extracting the most value from each of them represents an opportunity worth hundreds of millions in all of the world’s currencies and the opportunity to increase the number of green local jobs worldwide.
What if we can return ALL flexible, rigid, recyclable, unrecyclable, compostable and biodegradable types of plastic in ONE single bin everywhere we go; school, university, office, recreational centre, shopping mall, market, public beaches and in all of the streets of every city, town, and village on the PLANET?

Plastic Oceans Foundation Canada is excited to support this challenge to Rethink Plastics. :- Working in collaboration with like-minded organizations across Canada, we are combining efforts to solve a global problem through local action.

José Luis Gutiérrez-García, Project Director, UpGyres, said: We are very excited that Plastic Oceans Foundation Canada supports and shares the PLASTIKA REPARABILIS CHALLENGE with their social and professional network. This expands and increases our organizations’ framework for collaboration with a broad range of stakeholders across Canada.”
